Congratulations! Rafael Nadal won the Australian Open, which counts as his 21st Grand Slam Title. After losing the first two sets against Daniil Medvedev, he made a heroic turn around. All the tennis fans knew that he just had foot surgery and it has been only a month and a half since he recovered from it. Many thought he would not even be able to make it to Melbourne, let alone be the champion.
His match today was nothing but a remarkable human drama that reminded me of the importance of resilience and perseverance. January 30, 2022 will forever be remembered as a day when Rafael Nadal wrote a great saga of what it means to push the limit. I particularly enjoyed him coming out of the match and saying “I don’t care much if I am the No 1, or not the No 1, the best of history or not the best of history. For me it’s about enjoying nights like today, that means everything for me. It means even more to me to achieve a second Australian Open than any other thing.” We all live the present and we all should embrace it fully. Every moment of it.
